Democrat Ilhan Omar received a standing ovation after making inflammatory remarks about Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist killed in Utah last week. Speaking from a church pulpit, Omar accused conservatives of attempting to rewrite Kirk’s legacy, declaring, “I do believe those of you interested in rewriting this hateful man’s history are full of sht.”
House Republicans have escalated calls for accountability, with Main Street Caucus Chairman Mike Flood announcing plans to refer Omar to the House Ethics Committee. Flood cited 18 incidents, including her “obnoxious, insulting and dismissive comments” following Kirk’s assassination. He also highlighted alleged violations involving illegal immigrants and improper use of TikTok for campaign purposes.
A separate effort to censure Omar over her remarks was blocked when four Republicans and all Democrats voted to table the measure. Flood emphasized that ethics reviews should precede any formal disciplinary action against Omar.
