Vice President JD Vance’s Cincinnati home was vandalized last night in what appears to be an attempted break-in. Windows were broken, but the Vance family had already returned to Washington, D.C., and was not present at the time.
In a statement posted on X, Vance expressed gratitude for the swift response of Secret Service agents and Cincinnati police: “I appreciate everyone’s well wishes about the attack at our home. As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. We weren’t even home as we had returned already to DC. One request to the media: we try to protect our kids as much as possible from the realities of this life of public service. In that light, I am skeptical of the news value of plastering images of our home with holes in the windows.”
William DeFoor, a 26-year-old Ohio man, was arrested early Monday and charged with obstructing official business, criminal damaging or endangering, criminal trespass, and vandalism. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday. Law enforcement officials reported that Secret Service agents heard a loud noise around midnight near the home and found DeFoor breaking a window with a hammer before attempting entry. The suspect also vandalized a Secret Service vehicle during his ascent up the driveway.
