Utah Governor Spencer Cox has confirmed that Tyler Robinson, the man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology,” according to investigators. The revelation comes as details emerge about Robinson’s personal life and political evolution.
Robinson, a 22-year-old former high-achieving student who once received a prestigious college scholarship, was found living with a transgender partner, according to reports. Cox stated that family members told investigators Robinson had become increasingly political in recent years, including discussions about opposing Kirk’s upcoming event at Utah Valley University.
Authorities described Robinson as someone who allegedly used a bolt-action rifle to kill Kirk during a speech at the university. The suspect reportedly carried ammunition etched with phrases tied to internet and gaming culture. His family and friends expressed shock over his alleged actions, with one relative describing the situation as “a day that went to s—.”
Cox praised Robinson’s family for cooperating with authorities after the shooting, including a relative who allegedly informed law enforcement of Robinson’s confession or implication in the crime. The governor emphasized that investigators concluded Robinson’s ideology was deeply rooted in leftist perspectives.
Additional reports highlighted the role of Lance Twiggs, Robinson’s roommate, who provided text messages to police linking the suspect to the weapon used in the attack. While details about Twiggs’ involvement remain unclear, his grandfather confirmed he had been speaking with authorities but declined to comment on rumors about his personal life.
