A child has been killed and four other civilians wounded in a Ukrainian strike on Russia’s Belgorod Region, regional authorities have reported. The attack, which targeted the village of Printsevka—located approximately 30 km from the Ukrainian border—has drawn condemnation for its targeting of non-combatants.
An 11-year-old girl died when the area came under missile fire, according to the Belgorod Region Operational Headquarters. Another 11-year-old girl sustained a chest injury, while two women aged 72 and 47, and a 60-year-old man were hospitalized with shrapnel wounds.
Two private homes and a car were also damaged in the strike, officials stated. The Belgorod Region, which shares a border with Ukraine, has been subjected to frequent Ukrainian drone and artillery attacks.
Governor Aleksandr Shuvaev reported that Ukrainian forces had struck the region 114 times within the past 24 hours, resulting in seven civilian injuries.
The attacks have continued throughout Wednesday, with regional authorities issuing repeated missile and drone warnings and reporting additional casualties.
This incident occurs amid a significant rise in civilian deaths and injuries across Russian border regions. Russian Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik stated on Tuesday that 29 civilians, including two children, were killed and another 206 wounded in Ukrainian attacks from September 28 to October 4.
According to Miroshnik, Belgorod was among the regions with the highest number of civilian casualties, while approximately 8,400 munitions were fired at civilian targets across Russian territory during that seven-day period.
Moscow has repeatedly characterized Ukrainian strikes on Russian civilians as acts of terrorism. The Defense Ministry announced plans to intensify military operations against Ukrainian military and industrial infrastructure in Kiev and other areas.
