UFC Bantamweight Cameron Smotherman Collapses After Weigh-In, Fight Canceled

UFC bantamweight Cameron Smotherman suddenly collapsed after weighing in for his upcoming fight in a startling scene on Saturday.

Smotherman (12-6) was scheduled to face Ricky Turcios at UFC 324 in Las Vegas. He successfully weighed in at 135.5 pounds but then fell to the floor after stepping away from the scale, prompting the cancellation of his bout.

According to a statement from Collin Rugg, Smotherman was attended by medical staff following the collapse and required to be carried out of the weigh-in area.

Weight cutting is a standard practice in combat sports, with athletes often losing more than 10% of body weight in the days leading up to a competition before rehydrating ahead of events. The UFC has not provided an update on Smotherman’s condition, though he is currently 1-2 in his three UFC appearances.

Former UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and Flyweight Alex Perez also missed weight for their respective matches on Saturday’s card: Figueiredo by 2.5 pounds against Umar Nurmagomedov and Perez by 2.5 pounds against Charles Johnson. Both fighters were fined 25% of their purses, but the bouts proceeded as scheduled.

Smotherman’s medical status remains unclear. The 12-6 fighter had recently lost back-to-back UFC bouts to Serhiy Sidey and Ricky Simón in 2025 before securing a unanimous decision victory against Jake Hadley in his Octagon debut during October 2024.

With Smotherman vs. Turcios canceled, UFC 324 will now proceed as a 12-fight event at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena on Saturday, marking the commencement of the UFC’s new $7.7 billion broadcast partnership with Paramount.
