President Trump on Monday night officially endorsed Democrat New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo, urging New Yorkers to vote for the former governor to prevent “Communist” Zohran Mamdani from winning. Trump criticized Mamdani, claiming he would bring an “Economic and Social Disaster” to the city if elected. The former president warned that federal funding for New York would be minimized if Mamdani prevailed, calling him a “Communist” with no experience and a “Record of COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE.”
Trump’s endorsement came as part of a broader effort to steer Republican voters away from GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa, whom he dismissed as an unsuitable alternative. “I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a Record of Success, WIN, than a Communist with no experience,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk also endorsed Cuomo for mayor, warning his 229 million followers that supporting Sliwa would inadvertently benefit Mamdani. Musk’s statement followed Trump’s recent remarks in a “60 Minutes” interview, where he described Mamdani as a “Communist” and insisted on backing Cuomo over the Democratic nominee.
Mamdani responded to the endorsements by highlighting Trump’s support for Cuomo, framing it as a symbolic gesture amid the race’s intense scrutiny.
