Tampa International Airport’s recent social media post declaring “it’s time to ban pajamas” at the airport was explicitly stated by officials as a playful joke, not an actual policy change. The announcement—which read: “We’ve seen enough. We’ve had enough… Pajamas. At. The. Airport. In the middle of the day”—was later confirmed by the airport to be part of its longstanding tradition of lighthearted social media humor.
Airport spokesperson Beau Zimmer stated the post was a deliberate nod to travel fashion debates and emphasized, “Tampa International Airport regularly shares lighthearted, satirical social media content as part of our ongoing effort to engage with our followers.” The airport’s account has cultivated this humorous persona since its early days on Twitter, with Zimmer noting that “our regular social media followers just eat this stuff up.”
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also engaged with the post, reacting with a reference to actor John Krasinski from The Office saying “Yes!” in alignment with his recent campaign encouraging more respectful travel attire. The airport clarified its message was entirely fictional, stating: “Today’s post about ‘banning’ pajamas was another playful nod to day-of-travel fashion debates. We encourage our passengers to travel comfortably and appreciate our loyal followers who enjoy the online humor.”
