Suspect Arrested After Alleged Window Break-Ins at Vice President Vance’s Cincinnati Residence

A man was arrested overnight for allegedly causing damage to Vice President JD Vance’s residence in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Cincinnati police officers and Secret Service agents responded to Vance’s home and took the suspect into custody. Cameras captured what appeared to be damage to windows of the property. Officers were on scene in the East Walnut Hills area for several hours, entering and exiting the house multiple times.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight Monday morning. Secret Service personnel coordinated with Cincinnati Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office during the response.

According to an arrest report, William DeFoor, 26, has been charged with causing property damage, including breaking four windows and damaging a vehicle at Vance’s residence. Authorities state that DeFoor was seen by a Secret Service agent and on security footage walking onto the property without permission.

“The residence was unoccupied at the time of the incident, and the Vice President and his family were not in Ohio,” the Secret Service confirmed.

DeFoor has been charged with criminal damaging/endangering, obstructing official business, criminal trespass (all misdemeanors), and one count of vandalism, a fifth-degree felony.

A spokesperson for Vance confirmed that the vice president and his family visited Ohio over the weekend but had left before the alleged damage occurred.

Vance, a former Ohio senator who purchased a home in Cincinnati’s East Walnut Hills neighborhood for $1.4 million in 2018, previously described it as “the perfect combo of proximity to the city and to nature.” He noted that neighbors are great and friends live within walking distance, and he appreciated the natural beauty including old giant trees and wildlife.

Additionally, a city news release states that several roads in the neighborhood were closed from December 29 through January 4, though the reason was not specified.
