Spencer Pratt, the reality television personality and candidate for Los Angeles mayor, has publicly accused current city leader Karen Bass of negligence in connection with a wildfire that destroyed his home in the Palisades on January 7, 2024.
Pratt recounted that he was unaware of the impending danger until his nanny alerted him to smoke and flames near their property. The fire consumed his residence and multiple homes, with over 7,000 structures reported damaged or destroyed.
In a statement, Pratt alleged that Mayor Bass was absent from the crisis: she was reportedly traveling to Africa at the time of the fire while her deputy mayor was on house arrest. This, he claims, prevented an immediate emergency response and left residents vulnerable.
Pratt has initiated legal action against the city and state, citing systemic failures in emergency preparedness. His campaign gained momentum after a viral ad juxtaposed his travel trailer with Bass’s mansion. The candidate, known for his role on “The Hills,” has framed his candidacy as a direct response to what he describes as chronic neglect of public safety and infrastructure by Los Angeles city leadership.
