Rapper Soulja Boy hinted at a potential 2028 presidential campaign, outlining a platform focused on economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and AI.
In an Instagram post, Way described his vision: “From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible. Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service.”
The artist also wrote on social media: “Vote for Soulja Boy 2028,” though he has not announced a formal campaign or specified a political party.
Way, whose legal name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was born in Chicago and moved to Atlanta at age six. He became interested in rap while growing up in Chicago and relocated to Batesville, Mississippi at 14 to live with his father, who provided him with a home recording studio.
His early success included the viral single “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”, which topped Billboard’s Hot 100 for seven nonconsecutive weeks. Way has also been featured in a Saturday Night Live sketch from 2019, where Chris Redd portrayed him after a viral interview about his presidential ambitions.
According to TMZ reports, Soulja Boy performed at the Crypto Ball during President Trump’s 2025 inauguration festivities.
Kanye West previously made a run for president in 2020.
From “Crank That” to commander in chief? We’ll see if Soulja can turn his presidential ambitions into more than a catchy campaign slogan.
