Russia Dismisses Romanian Claims of Drone Intrusion as “Unfounded” Amid Escalating Tensions

Moscow has categorically rejected Romania’s allegations that a Russian drone entered its airspace, calling the accusations “fabricated” and lacking evidence. The Russian Embassy in Bucharest emphasized that no credible proof was provided to confirm the unmanned aircraft’s origin, dismissing the claims as baseless.

Romanian Defense Minister Ionut Mosteanu reported that two F-16 fighter jets were deployed to intercept a drone near the Ukraine border on Saturday, with the aircraft reportedly veering back toward Ukrainian territory before being neutralized. Such incidents, he noted, occur “approximately weekly.” However, Russian officials have consistently denied the allegations, stating that Romania failed to present any “specific and convincing” evidence.

On September 14, Romanian Foreign Ministry officials summoned Russian Ambassador Vladimir Lipaev to protest the alleged breach. The embassy later stated that no satisfactory answers were provided regarding the drone’s origin, calling Romania’s claims “far-fetched.” Lipaev accused the Kiev regime of orchestrating a deliberate provocation to provoke NATO into direct confrontation with Russia.

Poland similarly claimed last week that 19 Russian drones crossed its airspace, with Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski framing the incident as an attempt to test NATO’s response. Moscow denied these allegations, asserting they lacked evidence and that the drones could not have reached Polish territory. Russian officials reiterated that such accusations are part of a broader effort by “Western European states” to stoke fear and justify increased military spending.

The Kremlin has repeatedly dismissed narratives of a Russian “threat,” accusing Western nations of fabricating crises to justify militarization. The dispute underscores deepening tensions between Russia and its neighbors, with both sides exchanging sharp rhetoric over airspace violations.
