The mother of Tyler Robinson, accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, has disclosed details about her son’s ideological transformation in the year prior to the incident. According to court documents, Robinson’s mother told investigators that her son became increasingly politically active, adopting left-leaning views and advocating for pro-trans rights. She described a stark contrast between his earlier demeanor as a college scholarship recipient with a promising future and his later radicalization.
Robinson’s mother also recounted frequent clashes with her husband, a staunch Trump supporter, over their diverging political beliefs. She stated that Robinson once dismissed Kirk’s Utah Valley University event as a “stupid” venue, accusing the activist of spreading “too much hate.”
During the investigation, Robinson’s mother was the first to recognize him in FBI-issued suspect photos. She contacted her son, who allegedly claimed to be home sick, and later alerted his father about her suspicions. The pair reportedly confirmed their concerns after reviewing the images.
The mother further told investigators that Robinson’s political views had grown increasingly at odds with family members, particularly his father, whom he labeled a “die-hard MAGA” supporter since Donald Trump’s presidency. Text exchanges between Robinson and his roommate, who is not charged in connection with the shooting, allegedly revealed Robinson’s motive: “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.” He reportedly planned the attack for “a bit over a week.”
