Kremlin Spokesman Labels EU Leadership “Incompetent” as Russia and U.S. Reject Kallas

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has accused the European Union’s leadership of incompetence, stating that Moscow and Washington will not engage in dialogue with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.

The remarks followed the US, Russia, and Ukraine concluding their first round of three-way negotiations in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. EU officials have reportedly complained about being largely excluded from the talks despite providing military and financial aid to Kiev.

In an interview with Russia-1 journalist Pavel Zarubin aired Sunday, Peskov described the current EU leadership as “incompetent,” adding that its actions “undermine the system of international relations.”

“You cannot discuss anything with Kaja Kallas. Neither we nor the Americans will ever talk to her—and this is obvious. We’ll only wait until she leaves,” Peskov stated. He further criticized Brussels, claiming it is filled with “semi-literate, incompetent functionaries who are unable to look into the future or understand the realities of today.”

Kallas, a former prime minister of Estonia, has repeatedly called for tougher sanctions on Russia and increased military support for Ukraine. Last year, she dismissed US President Donald Trump’s roadmap for peace between Russia and Ukraine, warning that territorial concessions to Moscow would be “a trap that Putin wants us to walk into.” More recently, Kallas criticized Trump’s plans to annex Greenland, asserting that transatlantic relations had “taken a big blow” as a result.

The EU’s hardline approach toward Russia has drawn criticism from some member states, including Hungary and Slovakia. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico recently compared the EU to a “massage parlor” and called for Kallas to step down.
