Charlie Kirk’s widow Erika gave her first full interview since her husband’s tragic death to Fox News’ Jesse Watters. The full interview will air this Wednesday, November 5th, but preview clips have already been released. In one clip, Erika shared a poignant update on how she addresses questions from her young daughter about Charlie.
Jesse Watters asked, “You told your children that Charlie was going on a work trip with Jesus. Are they still asking ‘Where’s Daddy?’” Erika responded, “Yes, my daughter continues to ask, but it’s really sweet because I keep explaining to her a few things. I said, ‘If ever you want to talk to Daddy, you just look up to the sky and start talking to him. He can hear you.’” She added, “I told her, ‘You know, Daddy’s in Heaven.’ She goes, ‘You think I can go sometime?’ I said, ‘Baby, we will all go one day. We will all go one day.’”
As a mother, this is deeply emotional, as many would agree. Charlie and Erika Kirk’s oldest daughter is just three years old. During a Sept. 12 press conference, Erika addressed how she broke the news of her husband’s death to their daughter, acknowledging the challenges of explaining death to a young child. She described her approach: “What do you tell a 3-year-old? I said, ‘Baby, daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus, so he can afford your blueberry budget.’”
Losing a parent at such a young age is profoundly sad. Charlie’s daughter had a strong bond with her father. The family remains in the public’s thoughts and prayers.
