Florida Bread Tests Reveal “Triple-Digit” Glyphosate Levels in Popular Brands

Florida officials have reported alarming levels of glyphosate—a primary component of Roundup—in multiple widely consumed bread products, according to state health department findings. The results, part of Governor Ron DeSantis’ “Healthy Florida First” initiative, identified high concentrations of the pesticide in popular brands including Nature’s Own Butter Bread, Nature’s Own Perfectly Crafted White, Wonder Bread Classic White, and Sara Lee Honey Wheat.

First Lady Casey DeSantis warned that glyphosate is “designed to kill plants” and “not meant to be eaten,” emphasizing that labels on such pesticides explicitly warn of hazards for children. The state’s Department of Health tested numerous bread items, finding some brands with no detectable glyphosate while others contained significantly elevated levels.

Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo described the evidence as “just really, really concerning,” noting chronic exposure to glyphosate is linked to harmful gut microbiome changes, liver inflammation, and adverse neurological effects. He added that testing revealed “triple-digit” levels in certain high-volume brands, though all samples tested far below EPA permissible limits of 0.1 to 400 parts per million.

DeSantis highlighted the initiative’s focus on transparency, directing consumers to foodtoxins.com for accessible test results. The findings follow earlier state testing of infant formula and candy products, which detected elevated levels of heavy metals like mercury, arsenic, and lead in major brands.

Ladapo stressed that bread—a staple for many Florida families—should not pose toxin risks, urging awareness of chemical contaminants that labels do not list. “Consumers deserve to know the truth,” he stated during a press conference, noting potential connections between glyphosate exposure and leaky gut conditions.
