Emergency on Incoming Flight Triggers Ground Stop at JFK Airport

An emergency on an incoming flight led to a ground stop at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that Frontier Airlines Flight 3546 landed safely at JFK around 12:45 p.m. after the crew identified an engine issue, according to officials. The ground stop was in effect from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., halting all inbound flights until that time.

The Airbus A320 departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Puerto Rico. No further details about the incident were immediately available. Low clouds also caused delays for inbound flights, adding approximately three-and-a-half hours to their schedules, while departures faced hour-long postponements due to weather conditions. The FAA stated its investigation into the event is ongoing.

This follows a previous ground stop at Newark Liberty International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, which was attributed to “staffing issues” and lasted 75 minutes. No injuries were reported aboard Frontier Airlines Flight 3546, which landed safely at 12:50 p.m. The aircraft is undergoing evaluation to determine the cause of the mechanical issue. A Frontier Airlines spokesperson confirmed the emergency declaration was a precautionary measure during the flight’s approach to JFK.
