Border Czar Tom Homan Eats Same Meal as ICE Detainees at Newark Facility

White House border czar Tom Homan made an unannounced visit to Delaney Hall, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Newark, this weekend. During his trip, he entered the cafeteria and ate the same meal served to detainees.

Homan stated that he did not need a scheduled tour or advance notice to learn about conditions at Delaney Hall.

A video released by Rapid Response 47 showed Homan challenging the narrative surrounding Delaney Hall, emphasizing that the person in charge was willing to eat the food and stand in the same room as detainees.

The Department of Homeland Security has pushed back against the narrative through multiple official posts. These include statements that no hunger strikes occur at Delaney Hall, detainees receive three meals daily along with clean water, clothing, bedding, showers, soap, toiletries, communication opportunities with family and lawyers, and comprehensive healthcare—many detainees report this as their best medical care.

Congressman Jeff Van Drew visited Delaney Hall and described conditions that differ significantly from the public narrative. He noted on-site doctors, nurses, dentists, a law library, a regular library, a gym, and a soccer field. Additionally, meal options are provided for allergies, kosher requirements, religious needs, and medical restrictions.

Van Drew stated: “So let’s stop pretending this is about conditions.”

The Trump administration has consistently maintained its position on enforcement, with Homan acting as the public face of that effort.

Homan’s unannounced visit and Van Drew’s independent assessment have directly contradicted claims that Delaney Hall operates under harsh conditions.
