A delegation of 250 U.S. state legislators, spanning all 50 states, arrived in Jerusalem for the “50 States, One Israel” initiative, marking the largest-ever gathering of American lawmakers in Israel. The event included visits to sacred sites such as the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, symbolizing shared cultural and religious ties.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar addressed the delegation, emphasizing bipartisan unity and condemning efforts to isolate Israel. Netanyahu highlighted the “active effort to counter attempts to besiege Israel,” while Sa’ar warned of a global campaign against the Jewish state, citing China and Qatar as key adversaries. He urged lawmakers to support anti-BDS legislation, calling it the “best answer against BDS.”
The legislators participated in meetings with Israeli officials and toured the country, reinforcing their commitment to Israel’s security. During the event, the group was serenaded with “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” a moment described as bizarre by some observers. Netanyahu also engaged the crowd humorously, joking about cell phones and declaring, “You’re holding a piece of Israel right there.”
The visit concluded with a performance by Israeli rock band Stella Maris, following speeches from Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, who praised U.S.-Israel relations. The event underscored deepening ties between American legislators and Israel amid ongoing regional tensions.
