Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has teased a potential presidential run for 2028 on social media, commenting on a hypothetical poll showing her leading Vice President JD Vance with the word “Bloop!”
Recent reports indicate AOC is considering a bid for higher office, either the U.S. Senate or the White House. Sources familiar with the situation state that AOC’s team is preparing for a 2028 campaign when Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer faces re-election and Democrats aim to reclaim the presidency.
AOC has not officially committed to a Senate or presidential candidacy but has recruited former senior advisors from Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders’ orbit as she navigates her political future. She notably joined Sanders on his national “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, which focuses on opposing Trump administration policies.
Although AOC’s chances of winning the 2028 Democratic primary have risen, she could potentially set up a generational rivalry with Senator Chuck Schumer in upcoming midterm elections. This summer, AOC held town halls across Upstate New York that may help her expand appeal for a statewide Senate campaign. At one event in Plattsburgh, N.Y., she stated: “Plattsburgh, we are here because every town, every city, every neighborhood in this state matters. Every corner matters. No one deserves to be ignored.”
AOC’s office declined to comment.
