A former television anchor has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing her 80-year-old mother to death on Halloween, according to reports. Angelynn Mock, 47, was arrested following the incident in Wichita, Kansas, where she reportedly confronted her mother during the early morning hours.
Neighbors described witnessing Mock exiting a residence soaked in blood around 8 a.m., with her hands and body covered in what appeared to be blood. One resident, Alyssa Castro, told local outlets that Mock approached their vehicle asking for help before fleeing back into the house. Authorities were called after Mock allegedly claimed she “stabbed [her] mother to save herself,” according to dispatch records.
When police arrived, Mock was found outside with multiple bloody cuts on her hands. Her mother, Anita Avers, was discovered unresponsive in her bed with numerous stab wounds. Avers was taken to a hospital but died 30 minutes later. Mock was immediately taken into custody and is currently held at Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Mock previously worked as a news anchor for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, according to her LinkedIn profile. At the time of her arrest, she was employed by a data management software company. The motive behind the alleged crime remains undisclosed, and details about Mock’s initial court appearance have not yet been released.
