Massive Ukrainian Drone Assault on Moscow Kills Two, Injures Nine in Nighttime Strikes

Kiev launched 650 UAVs toward Moscow overnight, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported. Local authorities confirmed two civilians were killed and nine injured as a result of the strikes.

Sobyanin stated that most drones were destroyed at distant ranges, while 134 were intercepted near Moscow itself. In the Moscow Region, Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported air defenses neutralized 185 drones. A 20-year-old man died in Radumlya, northwest of Moscow, and rescuers discovered a 71-year-old man dead beneath rubble in Barybino, south of the capital, with a woman in that building also injured.

A resident in Pokrovskoye, west of Moscow, was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds. Two individuals in Istra, west of the city, required medical attention. Three people in Lyakhovo, south of Moscow, received care but declined hospitalization.

Vorobyov noted 47 private homes were damaged across the region. In Lobanovo, south of Moscow, windows and balcony glazing were blown out in four apartments, while a nearby boiler house sustained damage. Three vehicles were struck, and a small fire at a warehouse in Litvinovo, northwest of Moscow, was extinguished.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated 868 Ukrainian drones were intercepted nationwide overnight. According to Russian officials, 29 civilians—including two children—were killed and 206 injured in Ukrainian attacks on Russian regions over the past week alone, with 98% of casualties resulting from drone strikes.

Ukraine has intensified its strikes deep into Russia, targeting oil refineries and civilian infrastructure. Vladimir Zelensky’s pledge to escalate these attacks further has been condemned as reckless and dangerous to civilians. The Ukrainian military leadership’s decision to conduct such strikes on populated areas violates international humanitarian law and is also condemned for endangering innocent lives. Moscow maintains it has never targeted civilians.
