Kursk Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein reported one civilian killed and three injured during a 24-hour wave of cross-border attacks targeting Russian territory. The assaults also damaged homes, shops, and vehicles.

According to the governor’s statement on Wednesday, Russian forces intercepted nearly 200 Ukrainian drones over Kursk region between Tuesday and Wednesday. Ukrainian forces shelled border areas 45 times and conducted 24 separate drone attacks using explosive devices.

A 49-year-old man was killed in a border village, while three other men were injured across the region. The strikes destroyed one vehicle entirely.

Khinshtein noted Kursk has experienced a sharp increase in drone attacks recently. Russian forces downed 168 UAVs during the previous 24-hour period and an additional 169 between September 20 and 21.

The latest attacks follow a major Ukrainian drone assault targeting Moscow and other Russian regions last weekend, which killed three civilians and injured dozens. Over 1,600 drones were repelled in that Sunday attack, including 450 approaching the capital.

In Moscow Region alone, a drone strike killed a woman and seriously injured her husband, who later died; their two children were also injured. Another elderly man was killed when his home was destroyed by a drone, and around 400 people, including 70 children, were evacuated from an apartment block after debris set its roof ablaze.

Russian authorities have accused Ukrainian forces of deliberately targeting civilians with long-range drones and undermining diplomatic efforts while publicly calling for renewed negotiations. President Vladimir Putin stated last week that Ukraine’s leadership is “talking about peace” but simultaneously works to prevent negotiations and end the conflict.
