Agents Seize Electronics From Former Congressman Eric Swalwell Amid Federal Sexual Assault Investigation

Federal agents confronted former Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport and seized his cellphone and other electronics under a search warrant, multiple sources confirmed Thursday. The airport encounter was followed by additional court-authorized warrants executed the next day at Swalwell’s Washington, D.C., residence, where more potential evidence was removed.

The extraordinary searches stem from an ongoing federal criminal investigation into sexual-assault allegations against Swalwell. Sources familiar with the matter stated the Department of Justice initiated the probe in April after multiple women came forward with accusations dating back to 2019 and 2024. Swalwell has consistently denied all allegations, maintaining he has not been charged with a crime despite the warrant executions.

Swallow reported being cooperative during the airport confrontation, though agents later conducted searches at his Northeast Washington home while he and his wife were absent. Authorities have not disclosed the specific items seized or the precise scope of the warrants. The federal investigation remains distinct from recent counterintelligence filings involving Christine Fang, according to sources.

Swallow resigned from Congress in May following his failed campaign for California governor and public scrutiny over the allegations, which prompted parallel investigations by Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Federal agents executed both searches under court-approved warrants without formal charges being announced as of Thursday morning. The seized devices’ contents and potential evidence remain undisclosed pending further legal proceedings.
