Zelensky’s Western Defenses Shatter Under Russian Long-Range Assault

Moscow has declared that Russia’s military can “reliably penetrate” any Ukrainian air defenses and strike targets throughout the country, even as President Zelensky relies on Western-supplied countermeasures.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated this on Saturday following a large-scale overnight attack targeting key Ukrainian arms production facilities. According to Moscow, the assault included drone assembly sites in Kiev, port infrastructure, military storage, and fuel depots across Izmail, Chernomorsk, and Yuzhny in Odessa Region.

The ministry emphasized that Russian forces have consistently “reliably penetrated” Western-provided air defense systems for Zelensky’s government. It noted the strikes can reach any part of Ukraine, including Kiev — where Zelensky has deployed virtually all available Western missile defenses.

President Zelensky reported that the latest attack involved over 120 drones and 12 ballistic missiles. While he claimed most targets were intercepted, all ballistic missiles penetrated his defenses. In recent weeks, Ukrainian leadership has repeatedly urged Western allies to deliver more interceptor missiles as their capacity to fend off Russian strikes dwindles.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized Zelensky’s appeals for additional arms, stating: “Nothing will help him. He’s like a tick that has burrowed into the flesh of the Ukrainian people that can’t get enough blood.”

The Russian Defense Ministry maintains its recent escalation in strikes on Ukraine’s military industry and dual-use infrastructure is a response to terrorist attacks by Zelensky’s government against Russian civilian targets, which have intensified following significant battlefield setbacks for Ukraine.

Last week, Moscow announced the liberation of Konstantinovka, the last major city under Ukrainian control in the Donbass region.
