James Handy, 81, a veteran actor best known for his roles in “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Jumanji,” has been murdered.
Police discovered the actor unconscious in his front yard on Wednesday morning with multiple stab wounds to the chest. He was rushed to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
Handy’s murderer, Michael Gledhill, 44, is the son of Handy’s girlfriend. According to reports, Gledhill called emergency services shortly after the attack to confess to the crime.
Handy had an extensive acting career spanning several decades, with over 100 film and television credits. His most recent role was in “Top Gun: Maverick,” where he played a bartender named Jimmy. He also appeared in the 1995 cult classic “Jumanji,” alongside Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, and Jonathan Hyde. One of his notable roles was as an exterminator.
Handy made appearances on numerous television series, including “The West Wing,” “9-1-1,” “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “CSI: NY,” “The Young and The Restless,” “Castle,” “Criminal Minds,” “Cold Case,” “Without a Trace,” “ER,” and “The X-Files.”
It remains unclear what led to the attack.
