The Unavoidable End: Scott Pelley’s Immediate Termination from 60 Minutes

The firing of Scott Pelley from 60 Minutes has been confirmed, and the reason behind his termination is now public.

A termination letter from the show’s new executive producer, Nick Bilton, has surfaced. The document states that Pelley made himself impossible to work with and was terminated for cause effective immediately.

Joe Concha shared the letter publicly, describing it as “so telling and transparent.” In the letter, Bilton wrote: “I started this job excited to collaborate and to benefit from the wisdom and experience of the 60 Minutes veterans, with you among them. It is a profound disappointment that you rejected that overture and chose ambush instead.”

The letter further explains that Pelley hijacked Bilton’s first meeting with staff to disparage him in a manner marked by “remarkable incivility and contempt.” Bilton characterized Pelley’s recent actions as a “performative display of hostility” enacted in front of colleagues rather than through private conversation.

Pelley has responded that the letter reflects a complete misunderstanding of 60 Minutes’ mission and values.
