Tulsi Gabbard has resigned as Director of National Intelligence following her husband Abraham’s recent diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer.
President Donald Trump announced that he named Aaron Lukas, the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, as acting director. In his statement, Trump praised Gabbard for “doing an incredible job” and expressed confidence in her husband’s recovery: “I have no doubt he will soon be better than ever.”
Gabbard shared her resignation letter online, stating that she must step away from public service to support her husband during this critical health challenge. Her resignation takes effect June 30, 2026.
