A new report has surfaced indicating that senior White House officials are engaging in discussions about offering a high-ranking position within President Trump’s administration to New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The potential move aims to pressure Adams to withdraw from the upcoming mayoral elections, creating an opening for another candidate to challenge socialist Zohran Mamdani.
Sources close to the Trump administration revealed that conversations about a “plum gig” for Adams have been underway among top officials, though it remains unclear if the proposal has reached President Trump directly. A source familiar with the discussions noted, “Adams would be able to craft a position and a portfolio that’s to his liking,” while another claimed, “The Adams team has expressed interest.”
Adams has publicly rejected the notion of stepping aside, stating through his spokesperson: “Mayor Adams has not met with Donald Trump — don’t believe the noise. He is not dropping out of the race. The Mayor is fully committed to winning this election…” His campaign highlighted his record on crime reduction and job growth as key priorities.
Independent candidate Curtis Sliwa also dismissed speculation, asserting, “The White House has not contacted me, and I’m not interested in a job with the White House. My focus is right here in New York.” He emphasized his stance as the sole major-party candidate capable of defeating Mamdani.
