Trump to Lead China Summit with Musk, Cook and Fink Amid Iran Tensions

President Trump has invited several executives, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, to join his trip to China this week. Altogether, Trump plans to bring more than a dozen prominent business and technology executives to Beijing.

Trump will arrive in China on Wednesday. The executives will join him on the trip during which he has stated he hopes to secure a series of business deals and purchase agreements with Beijing.

The summit agenda is expected to cover trade, artificial intelligence, export controls, Taiwan, and the Iran conflict, with both sides entering the talks after weeks of escalating tensions. This marks Trump’s first visit to China since 2017.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent detailed the itinerary: “In advance of President Trump’s historic summit with President Xi in Beijing, I will depart on Monday for a quick series of meetings in both Japan and South Korea. On Tuesday, I will meet in Tokyo with Prime Minister Sanae Takahashi, Finance Minister Satomi Katayama, and other government and private sector representatives for discussions on the U.S.-Japan economic relationship.”

“On Wednesday, I will stop in Seoul for a discussion with Vice Premier He Lifeng of China, before continuing to Beijing for the Leaders’ Summit between President Trump and President Xi. Economic security is national security, and I look forward to a productive series of engagements as we work to advance President Trump’s America First Economic Agenda,” he added.

Trump previously brought a contingent of business leaders on his trip to Saudi Arabia in May. Some of the executives traveling to Beijing also participated in that Riyadh visit, including Musk, Schwarzman, Fink, Fraser, Ortberg, and Powell McCormick.

The Beijing trip, originally scheduled for early April, was postponed due to the U.S.-Iran conflict. As Washington and Tehran struggle to reach a lasting deal, the ongoing crisis threatens to weigh on Trump during this high-stakes meeting.
