Tensions continue to rise between the U.S. and Iran as we head into the weekend.
In response to heightened Iranian threats against American- and Israel-linked assets across Europe, the U.S. Embassy in London has issued a new security alert for Americans currently in the United Kingdom or planning travel there.
The alert, published by the U.S. Mission to the United Kingdom, warns U.S. citizens visiting Jewish or American community sites to remain vigilant.
Officials urge travelers to stay alert in tourist areas, places of worship, and community centers; review personal security plans; and monitor local media for updates.
Additionally, Americans are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time security notifications.
Recent reports indicate that heightened concerns have been circulating online, with U.S. travelers instructed to “stay aware of their surroundings when visiting American or Jewish institutions, community centers, and religious sites.”
Earlier this year, Kenton United Synagogue in London was surrounded by pro-Iran protesters who called for an end to the strikes launched by the U.S. and Israel against the Islamic Republic.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer visited the synagogue following an alleged arson attack on the building.
The incident occurred on April 19 when a bottle believed to contain an accelerant was hurled through the synagogue’s window.
Counter-terrorism police are investigating whether Iranian-backed individuals operating as “thugs for hire” are responsible for targeting religious sites in the city.
