Former California Congressman Eric Swalwell Spends $75,000 on Alcohol Deliveries and Luxury Hotels After Leaving Office

Federal Election Commission filings have revealed that former Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., spent over $75,000 in leftover campaign funds on personal expenses after departing Congress. The records show more than 100 charges to alcohol delivery services like Drizly, more than $10,000 in Uber and Lyft transactions, and approximately $26,000 in hotel stays—including a $20,000 tab at the Ritz Carlton. Additional spending included $4,400 at wineries and wine bars.

Campaign finance law requires that unused campaign funds be donated to charity, given to a political party, or used for legitimate political purposes. They are not permitted for personal enrichment.

Sw Swalwell, who previously ran for president and served on the House Intelligence Committee, has faced scrutiny over this pattern of expenditures after leaving office. The FEC filings indicate these transactions occurred over months following his departure from Congress. Critics note that the former congressman’s actions contrast sharply with his past advocacy for governmental transparency.
