In a sharp satirical move during his January 15th episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, host Jimmy Kimmel proposed offering President Donald Trump an Emmy Award on the condition that he withdraw U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from Minneapolis.
Kimmel’s offer followed Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado’s announcement that she had “presented” Trump with her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal during a White House meeting earlier in the week, describing it as “a recognition for his unique commitment with our freedom.” The president later confirmed the gesture on social media, calling it “a wonderful gesture of mutual respect.”
During his monologue, Kimmel mocked Trump’s reaction to receiving the award, stating: “Rarely does a president yank a Nobel Prize off of someone’s neck. He’s back in the Oval Office sucking on it like a pacifier right now.” The comedian suggested the Emmy would be the only way for Trump to “do anything,” adding: “If you — and only if you agreed to pull ICE out of Minneapolis and put them back at the borders where they belong, I am prepared to offer you one of the following trophies that I have been honoured with over the years.”
Trump has previously framed his pursuit of the Nobel Peace Prize as part of his claim to have “ended 8 wars,” noting he sought recognition for “stopp[ing] seven wars” before adding Israel and Hamas to his list. The president also stated he would consider sharing Machado’s award, which she had dedicated to him ahead of her visit.
