Treasury Department Launches Crackdown on Remittances from Illegal Immigrants

The United States Treasury Department announced today that it will seize funds sent abroad by illegal immigrants as part of efforts to combat financial exploitation. The move comes through an alert issued by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), emphasizing vigilance against cross-border transfers involving individuals residing illegally in America.

Under Secretary John K. Hurley stated, “Money services businesses should be vigilant… identifying suspicious financial activity involving illegal aliens who present significant threats to national security and public safety.”

The directive aligns with Executive Order 14159, Protecting the American People Against Invasion. MSBs are required by law to file reports for transactions meeting specific thresholds related to possible unlawful activities or illicit funds obtained within the U.S.

This enforcement action underscores ongoing measures targeting the misuse of U.S. financial systems and international money transfers originating from undocumented residents seeking unauthorized entry and employment benefits.
