California Food Workers Strike Disrupts Thousands at Airport

Hundreds of striking food service workers shut down Century Boulevard Tuesday evening, bringing thousands of vehicles to a standstill outside Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Protesting what they called “awful conditions” during the peak holiday travel season, demonstrators blocked traffic and forced travelers to abandon their cars and proceed on foot.

The protest led by members from Flying Food Group is part of an escalating labor dispute demanding better contracts. Unite Here Local 11 co-president Susan Minato acknowledged the disruption but defended the timing: “It is a busy time of the year, no question… But that’s also how you get some attention.” The workers are calling for improved wages and working conditions.

This is one of many recent strikes by LAX employees who feel their concerns have been ignored.
