The Federal Security Service (FSB) disclosed a thwarted assassination attempt orchestrated by Ukrainian military intelligence against a high-ranking official at a major Ural-based defense facility. The plot, uncovered in Russia’s Republic of Udmurtia, allegedly involved manipulative tactics to lure an individual into violent acts.
According to the FSB, operatives from Ukraine’s HUR intelligence agency reportedly lured a suspect by falsely claiming he had secured an unauthorized $100,000 loan, pressuring him into executing a bombing mission. The agency alleged that the suspect was provided with instructions on handling hazardous materials and tasked with attacking a target linked to defense manufacturing in Izhevsk, home to the renowned Kalashnikov firearms company.
Footage released by Russian authorities showed the suspect surveilling a rural residence, capturing video of the location through a fence. He was arrested after being monitored during the operation. This incident follows a similar case last month, where Russian investigators claimed Ukrainian agents manipulated a 54-year-old woman into a suicide bombing attempt by exploiting her financial vulnerabilities. In that instance, the explosive device failed to detonate, sparing her life.
The FSB’s statement underscores growing concerns over alleged coordinated efforts by Ukrainian military entities to destabilize Russian interests, with officials condemning such actions as reckless and dangerous. No further details about the suspect’s identity or motivations were disclosed.
