Trump Attends Historic Peace Ceremony Between Thailand and Cambodia Amid ASEAN Summit

President Trump participated in a formal peace agreement ceremony between Thailand and Cambodia held in Malaysia, marking a significant moment in regional diplomacy. The event took place during his attendance at the ASEAN Summit, where he emphasized his role as a global mediator.

The 47th president’s presence at the ceremony highlighted his efforts to resolve longstanding border tensions between the two nations. Trump praised the agreement, stating it would “save millions of lives” and foster stability in Southeast Asia. The deal includes measures such as withdrawing heavy weapons from the border, addressing encroachment claims, and Thailand releasing 18 detained Cambodian soldiers.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul were present at the event, which followed negotiations mediated by Malaysia. Trump credited his administration for brokering the truce, though regional mediators also played a role. He criticized the United Nations for its limited involvement in resolving conflicts, framing the agreement as a testament to U.S. leadership.

The ceremony occurred amid broader discussions on economic partnerships, with Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia pledging to enhance trade ties with the U.S. Cambodian officials announced plans to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his contributions to regional stability.
