Minnesota Gubernatorial Candidate Jeff Johnson Withdraws After Daughter Dies in St. Cloud Stabbing

A Minnesota gubernatorial candidate has withdrawn from the race following the tragic death of his 22-year-old daughter.

Hallie Marie Tobler, 22, was found dead at her home in St. Cloud on Saturday night after being stabbed multiple times. According to a statement from the St. Cloud Police Department (SCPD), her husband, Dylan Michael Tobler, 23, is believed to have caused her death.

Police responded to reports of a medical emergency at an apartment on 40th Avenue South around 8:20 p.m. Saturday and discovered Hallie dead from multiple stab wounds inside the locked premises, along with her husband who suffered life-threatening injuries. The department stated that Dylan Tobler’s injuries are self-inflicted and he is responsible for his wife’s injuries and death.

Dylan Michael Tobler has been taken into police custody after being hospitalized and is expected to face homicide charges following his release from the hospital. In light of this devastating loss, Jeff Johnson has suspended his campaign for governor. The Minnesota Republican Party confirmed Johnson’s withdrawal while expressing condolences to the family during their ongoing grief.
