Teacher Suspended After Showing Graphic Video to Elementary Students

A Toronto elementary school teacher has been suspended after allegedly showing students a violent video of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, sparking outrage among parents and officials. The incident occurred at Corvette Junior Public School in Scarborough, where a class of Grade 5 and 6 students, some as young as 10 years old, was reportedly exposed to graphic content during a lesson.

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) confirmed the suspension of a staff member who supervised the class, though the individual is not identified as the primary teacher. A letter from Principal Jennifer Koptie to parents described the incident as “extremely troubling and completely unacceptable.” The video, which depicted Kirk’s fatal shooting, was shown in response to questions about a recent U.S. event, according to the principal’s statement.

Koptie emphasized that the school is prioritizing student well-being, offering social work support and planning additional check-ins with affected students. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave while the TDSB investigates the allegations. Parents have expressed shock over the decision to show such material to young children, calling it “disgusting” and “bordering on child abuse.”

The incident has drawn widespread criticism, with calls for the teacher to be fired and stripped of their teaching credentials. No further details about the video’s origin or the specific context of its use have been released. The TDSB has not commented on whether disciplinary action will follow beyond the suspension.
