The FBI has provided new details in the investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk, revealing that a high-powered bolt-action rifle was found in a wooded area near Utah Valley University. Special agent Robert Bohls stated the weapon is undergoing analysis by an FBI lab. During a news conference at the university, Bohls shared that investigators recovered “footwear impression, a palm print and forearm imprints for analysis.”
FBI Agent Beau Mason also confirmed the discovery of the rifle, which authorities believe was used in the shooting. Officials described the suspect as “of college-age” and noted they blended into the campus environment. The investigation has identified “a few breakthroughs,” including tracking the shooter’s movements as he fled into a neighboring area.
Kirk’s family expressed devastation over the incident, with officials stating, “I can only imagine what they’re going through.” Authorities also addressed two individuals initially detained but later cleared of involvement, urging an end to threats against them. While “good video” and images of the suspect exist, officials have not released them pending further investigation. Kirk’s body was transferred to the state medical examiner’s office for processing before being returned to his family.
