Suspect Arrested in Charlie Kirk Shooting Not Actual Perpetrator, Authorities Confirm

According to multiple reports, the individual detained by Utah police in connection with the shooting of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk is not the actual perpetrator. Earlier footage depicted officers arresting a suspect, but officials have since clarified that the person taken into custody was not the shooter.

Scott Trotter, a university spokesperson, confirmed that the man arrested following the incident “is NOT the actual shooter, per authorities,” as reported by journalist Nick Sortor. The suspect initially confessed to the attack but has since been ruled out as the true perpetrator. Police are conducting a campus search, with students instructed to lock down.

Utah Valley University (UVU) issued a statement detailing the incident: “On September 10, 2025, at 12:20 p.m., a single shot was fired in the quad near the food court on the Orem Campus as Mr. Charlie Kirk began speaking at his planned rally. We can confirm Mr. Kirk was shot, but we don’t know his condition. The suspect is not in custody. Police are still investigating. The campus is closed for the rest of the day.”

Initial reports suggested a suspect was in custody, but officials have since corrected that information. The investigation remains ongoing.
