Iran’s president has reportedly submitted a resignation letter to the country’s supreme leader, according to reports from Iran International on Sunday.
The source cited by Iran International stated that in the letter, President Masoud Pezeshkian wrote that his government had been excluded from major decision-making in Iran. He claimed that under these circumstances, he was unable to govern effectively or fulfill his legal responsibilities and requested an immediate step down.
The report also indicated that the resulting vacuum has allowed hard-line factions within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to take control of key affairs.
It remains unclear whether Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei will accept President Pezeshkian’s resignation.
