Administration Unveils Sweeping New Measures to Trace Antifa Funding Sources

The federal government has initiated steps to identify and track the funding sources of Antifa, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on May 28, 2026.

In a White House briefing, Bessent detailed recent changes to IRS reporting policies that require nonprofits to disclose their grant recipients in annual Form 990 filings.

Bessent stated there has been “substantial progress” in the investigation and that the FBI and Treasury Department will have “a lot to report” on the effort within weeks and months.

The White House had designated Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization on September 22, 2025, describing it as a violent group that suppresses lawful political speech and conceals its operatives’ identities through illegal means.

House Oversight Republicans also announced a task force chaired by Representative Brandon Gill to investigate alleged fraud in public programs and dark money networks linked to groups that suppress free speech.
