A Georgetown University professor has ignited widespread condemnation after his social media response to concerns about sexual assaults by Muslim men in the United Kingdom was described as callous and dismissive.
Jonathan AC Brown, the university’s Chair of Islamic Civilization, deleted an initial X post that read: “Get Over It” in response to a British member of Parliament’s comments regarding rising incidents of sexual assault by Muslim groups.
Brown later doubled down on his stance after another user labeled his reply “absurdly evil,” repeating the same phrase. Critics across social media condemned his remarks as inflammatory and insensitive.
The professor has been accused of a pattern of reckless rhetoric, including calls for Iran to bomb U.S. military bases and open support for Hamas during the recent conflict in Israel. In 2017, Brown was documented for openly supporting Islamic supremacism and defending slavery and rape.
Shae McInnis, president of Georgetown’s College Republicans chapter, told reporters that Brown’s comments reflect a worldview “fundamentally at odds with Georgetown’s core values” and called for his removal from the university.
Brown has also been on paid leave for over 200 days since he began advocating for U.S. soldiers to be bombed by Iran.
