Trapped in Collapse: At Least Two Missing After Philadelphia Parking Garage Disaster

Authorities in Philadelphia reported Wednesday that at least two people are trapped following a partial collapse of a parking garage in the city’s Grays Ferry neighborhood. Emergency crews discovered construction workers beneath rubble after a seven-story building under construction at 3000 Grays Ferry Avenue collapsed shortly after 2 p.m.

Police stated one construction worker was rushed to a hospital and later died, while another construction worker was found dead. At least two individuals remain missing as emergency responders continue search efforts. The Philadelphia Fire Department confirmed the collapse occurred on the first floor of the structure, with live chopper footage showing significant damage.

Residents had previously protested the parking garage project in February, citing concerns about increased traffic congestion, environmental harm, and negative impacts on public health. Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) stated it has held more than 20 community meetings with Grays Ferry residents since the project began, resulting in initiatives including a five-year grant for local nonprofits, financial contributions to the D. Finnegan Recreation Center, health education workshops, employment support programs, alternate parking options for Titan Street neighbors, and expanded pediatric clinical services in the area.
