House Rep. John B. Larson Files 13 Articles of Impeachment Against Trump Over ‘Illegal War’ and Life-Threatening Threats

Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) has filed 13 articles of impeachment against President Trump.

Larson cited “the president’s military intervention in Venezuela, the deployment of National Guard troops to cities across the country and his executive order to curtail birthright citizenship, among other charges.”

A press release from Larson’s office stated: “Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced he has filed articles of impeachment to remove Donald Trump from office as the President becomes more unhinged and risks the lives, safety, and security of the American people. Larson is also calling for the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment as Trump escalates his illegal war and threatens to annihilate an entire civilization.”

Larson said: “Donald Trump has blown past every requirement to be removed from office. And it’s getting worse. His illegal war in Iran is not only driving up prices for American families — it has cost American lives.”

He added: “He’s becoming more unstable by the day. His profane and sacrilegious Easter Sunday and subsequent threats, including ‘a whole civilization will die’ and ‘open the Strait…or you’ll be living in h’ not only foreshadow war crimes, but put our security at risk.”

The resolution has little chance of advancing in the Republican-controlled House or resulting in a Senate trial, even if Larson chooses to force a vote when lawmakers return the week of April 13.

Larson’s impeachment push comes as he faces a heated primary challenge from several younger candidates running on a mantle of generational change.

Larson, a senior member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, notably suffered a complex partial seizure while delivering a speech on the House floor in February 2025.

Primary challenger Luke Bronin, 46, a former Hartford mayor and military veteran, has called on Larson to step aside after nearly three decades in the House. Bronin, who is backed by Democratic-aligned veterans groups, outraised Larson during the first two months after launching his insurgent campaign in 2025.

It is unclear whether Larson’s impeachment push is supported by House Democratic leadership. A spokesperson for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Larson is the latest in a string of House Democrats to introduce articles of impeachment against Trump since he began his second term.

Another House Democrat, Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ), will introduce articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for “repeatedly violating his oath of office and his duty to the Constitution.”

Ansari stated: “Hegseth’s reckless endangerment of U.S. servicemembers and repeated war crimes … are grounds for impeachment and removal from office.”

“This isn’t partisan,” Ansari wrote in a statement. “Republicans, Democrats, and Independents now know that Trump is dangerous and unfit. Whether through impeachment or by invoking the 25th Amendment, it is far past time Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are removed from office.”

A Pentagon spokesperson countered: “During an ongoing military operation in the Middle East and on the heels of the two most daring and successful rescue operations in military history, this is just another Democrat trying to make headlines. Secretary Hegseth will continue to protect the homeland and unleash epic fury on Iran’s radical regime. This is just another charade in an attempt to distract the American people from the major successes we have had here at the Department of War.”
