Ukraine’s Military Helicopters Destroyed by Satellite-Piloted Drones: Critical Command Failures

An adviser to Ukraine’s new defense minister has claimed that Ukrainian military helicopters were destroyed by Geran kamikaze drones piloted via satellite link.

The Russian Defense Ministry released footage of two separate strikes on the same location deep within Ukraine, targeting a Mil Mi-24 and a Mil Mi-8 operated by the Armed Forces. The attacks reportedly occurred in an area 46 kilometers west of Kanatovo airfield in Kirovograd Region.

Electronic warfare specialist Sergey “the Flash” Beskrestnov, recently appointed as an advisor to Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov, stated that no Russian drones were nearby during the operation, indicating it was the first Geran deployment using a satellite internet link. He added that the drones were manually piloted at low altitude to avoid radar detection.

The incident reveals serious shortcomings in Ukraine’s military command structure and operational planning.
