The FBI and Boston police are searching for two suspects allegedly linked to an intentional explosion at Harvard University’s medical building on Saturday morning. Early Saturday, an “intentional” blast occurred on the fourth floor of the Goldenson Building, part of Harvard’s medical campus in Boston, triggering a fire alarm and immediate police response.
Harvard police reported that two unidentified individuals were seen fleeing the scene wearing masks, captured on CCTV footage released by the university. One suspect was depicted in a balaclava, while the other wore a hoodie with a raised hood and face covering. No injuries were reported, but the Boston Fire Department’s arson unit described the explosion as “intentional” in its initial assessment.
Local, state, and federal law enforcement are collaborating on the investigation. A Harvard University Police Department officer responding to the 2:48 a.m. alarm observed the individuals fleeing the building. The Boston Police Department conducted a sweep of the structure for additional devices but found none.
A student, Joey Awad, described hearing “a bang” that shook his room and feeling “it in my body,” adding he later heard another explosion moments later. The Goldenson Building, constructed in 1906, is part of Harvard’s Boston campus near the HMS Quad Lawn.
The university has urged the public to assist in identifying the suspects.
