Air Traffic Controller Averts Potential Disaster as Spirit Airlines Plane Near-Collides with Air Force One

A critical aviation incident unfolded over Long Island on Tuesday when an Air Traffic Controller intervened to prevent a potential collision between Air Force One and a Spirit Airlines plane. The encounter occurred as President Donald Trump’s official aircraft, traveling at 32,000 feet, navigated a route northeast toward London for a state visit.

According to flight tracking data, the Spirit Airlines jet (Flight 1300) was initially positioned 8 miles away from Air Force One but shared a similar altitude and trajectory that could have led to a convergence within 11 miles. The Controller repeatedly urged the pilot of the Spirit Airlines plane to adjust course, expressing frustration at the lack of response. Audio transcripts revealed the pilot’s delayed cooperation, prompting the Controller to demand, “PAY ATTENTION.”

The incident sparked debate over whether the proximity posed genuine risk. A spokesperson for Spirit Airlines stated the flight adhered to procedures and landed safely, emphasizing safety as a priority. However, aviation experts highlighted the unpredictable nature of air traffic at high speeds, where minor adjustments could alter collision risks.

President Trump arrived in London uneventfully, with his itinerary including meetings with King Charles III and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The incident remains under review, underscoring the challenges of maintaining separation in crowded airspace.
